Avalanche Conditions

Toured valley bottom to Alpine. Whumps and cracks every step of the way. Up to70 cm recent storm snow sitting on 10-15 cm large facets which is sitting on the still very bullet proof early February melt freeze crust. At 1700 m we experience a significant whumps with a noticeable drop feeling under our skis. This failure propagated about 100 m
triggering a Sz 2 soft slab failing first down 35 cm in the recent storm snow then stepping down to the facets on the crust down about 70.
We skied supportive terrain 30 degrees or less and finally had great skiing after a forgettable month of less than desirable conditions.
