Climbing Conditions

Neil and I had beautiful weather climbing the West Ridge of Mt Tupper today in Rogers Pass.

There was a good freeze last night, and we had some verglass and dampness in shady places left over from the recent snowfall earlier in the week. There was no snow on the route, but there was a few cm’s hanging on the North Face ledges. At higher elevations near the top of the Swiss Peaks and Hermit there was also still some fresh snow on South faces as well (see photo).

Although we were wearing t-shirts the first half of the way up the ridge, we got numb fingers on the crux pitch as the rock was cold in the shade.

Enjoy the rest of the summer!
