Climbing Conditions

We changed objectives from Rogers Pass/Hermit Meadows to Bow Hut due to an unfavourable weather forecast. We were glad we did as it was nice to be able to dry out in the evenings after getting wet in the daily afternoon showers.

Our climbing day was Sunday July 7, and we ascended Olive and St Nicholas. Snow travel on moraines and glaciers was good even though there was no freeze overnight, generally ankle deep foot penetration. Coverage was good with no ice showing even at the tongue of the glacier.

Once we got on the peaks themselves the snow quality changed drastically with a lot of deep postholing. The closer you got to rocks the worse it was.

Monday July 8 it was again +5 C at the hut at 0600; we walked out later that morning.
