Skied Video peak today. Skin wax was very useful in the a.m. with new snow over moist old snow. It was snowing 1cm per hr in the morning and the afternoon was cloudy with a few almost sunny breaks. Winds were variable - moderate to strong from the SW to N. Good travel up to treeline on a decent benched track. In the alpine there was 10-15cm new snow on a 10cm crust, below was 30- 40cm of moist snow. We bootpacked the final slope and ridge of Video Pk and generally had good deep steps with a few firmer exceptions, any firmer and crampons or an axe would have been appreciated by some members of the group. Not surprisingly, we had 10-15cm deep size 1 soft slabs reactive to skiers and bootpackers on steeper terrain features (photo). On our exit snow below tree line was no longer supportive to skiers except in areas of previous higher traffic.
