Ski Conditions

Guiding on the Bonney Moraines today and have some observations to share.

30-40cm of low density snow on the surface at BTL. Isolated pockets of wind slab at TL on N aspects. We got multiple large settlements as we reach the top of the skiers right moraines. We observed a Sz 1.5 avalanche 15-30cm deep, bed surface was SH to 12mm and facets.

Test Profile at 1900m on a NW aspect on the moraines
CTE(3) down 15 SP on SH x 2
CTM(12) down 40 SP on SH x 2
CTH(21) down 80 SP on SH x 2

We skied conservative supported terrain to 25 degrees. Ski cut on small roll produced no results. 2nd skier down triggered a Sz 2 with no involvement. Avy was accidentally triggered directly below skier and fractured on the initial ski cut.

We also triggered a Sz 1 on the lower moraine, there was no wind affect. Daytime warming settled the HST into a very soft slab.
