Ski Conditions

Skied Surprise Pass on Sunday. As expected, it has seen some traffic which is not necessarily a bad thing given the overall low coverage. The mid section of the chute still offered some untouched snow if you don't mind hitting the lurking sharks. The rest was "gently-moguled" and what the ski hills call "packed powder". The bowls just west of Mt. Fairview offered pretty good coverage and untracked skiing in good light.

Generally, the recent drought and cold overnight temps are weakening whatever thin mid pack there is and breaking through to the basal facets is the main concern with worry about integrity of skis and knees.

I also skied in the Emerald Lake area on Friday and word about the better and more supportive snowpack there seems to have travelled widely already!
