Climbing Conditions

Suspect belay bolt

Escargot Corner

Climbing Conditions

Great excursion up Escargot Corner on Sunday, July 24, with another member. Dry, hot conditions. We started ground up, completing pitches 1 through 6. At the top of pitch 2 (the alternate starting stance if you opt to scramble around pitches 1 and 2), the left belay bolt easily flexes under tension. We chose to backup the belay with a piece of gear, as we were unable to address the bolt issue. It can be easy to assume bolts are bomber, but evaluating hardware is always a good practice!

Play well, play safe!
