I did a day trip up to the Bow Hut today. Lots of new snow from the current storm -- 25+ cm at the hut elevation -- and more in the forecast.
There was very little wind today, making for excellent powder skiing. Yesterday there were reports of wind loading and windslab development from strong SW winds, and we witnessed several natural avalanches to size 2 out of the Headwall above the approach to Bow hut and of the East face of Crowfoot peak. Lots of loose avalanche activity as the day warmed up and the snow amounts steadily increased.
All in all it felt more like mid- or even early March than April.
