Climbing Conditions

I just returned from another wonderful week on the Wapta based out of Bow hut. During the week we experienced good travel conditions on our ascents of Mt Olive, Mt. Rhonda, and Mt. Gordon. On the Glaicers the snowpack is over 200cm deep in most places high on the icefield.

Of note this week is the recent storm which started on Tuesday with rain the mountain top and transitioned to snow on Wednesday which was continuing today. When we left the hut this morning there was 15cm at the hut and 30cm+ accumulated on the glacier with more yet to come. In our travels on Thursday we observed the new snow bonding well to the old surfaces but the winds were rapidly building fragile cornices and transporting a lot of snow in the alpine. It is heads up avalanche conditions in the alpine right now and I would expect this to continue for the next few days.

Happy trails!
