Last week, ( Feb 18-25), I spent 7 days around the Log Ck area. The week started out unsettled with flurries depositing about 18cm of storm snow over a variety of snow surfaces, before turning clear with the arrival of the Arctic front. The temps ranged from -5 to -22

North aspects skied very well, South aspects were mostly smooth planer glades with settled powder over firm surfaces, ridge tops had a variety of crusts. Cornices were not as large as some years.

On undisturbed northerly and sheltered aspects we still felt settlements in a narrow elevation band between 2000-1700m. The late Jan crust complex was easily detectable producing easy"Sudden Collapse" and easy "Sudden Planer" results in specific locations. Elsewhere, this late Jan PWL seemed to be biding its time, withstanding the light snow loads. No recent avalanches were observed. We stayed mostly on supported slopes

The clear cold conditions later in the week caused the surface to facet, on the ski-out lakes and gentle meadows were sparkling with 2-5mm surface hoar
