I recently spent two days Nov. 7-8th in the Asulkan drainage traveling/skiing around the Dome, Lily and Sapphire Col areas. Coverage is much the same as the Connaught drainage. The supportive snow in the valley bottoms makes access to higher terrain possible but not very appealing. Once above 1900m coverage improves to 80-120cm. On the Dome glacier at 2200-2400m 120cm - 250cm was probed. Sagging snow bridges did exist and the main convex roll had open crevasses. We did not ski on the Lily glacier or the Asulkan glacier because of thin bridging and numerous open crevasses which would be expected for this time of year. A moderate to strong SW wind event on the night of Nov. 7 created thin 5cm 1F wind slabs in isolated lee areas and scoured what little snow was available for transport down to the crust on south to west aspects. The thin slabs were very stubborn to ski cutting. Any glacier travel would be advised to have the rope on and know how to use it! Some nice turns were had in sheltered areas but I echo other reports and will be waiting for more snow before I go out again. However, it looks like that will arrive soon!
