Hi all,
I guided an ascent of the upper Southeast ridge of Mount Rogers on August 29th. We had mixed weather after a showery night before our climb, the rock on the upper ridge was slick! There was still lingering snow patches from last week's snow event above 3000m, mostly on northerly aspects. From Rogers Col, we descended via the south face/couloir to the Swiss glacier and experience late summer conditions. There was good snow on the upper couloir however, the exposed ice on the lower face was soft and it was difficult to find good ice screw placements even with much digging. The bergsrund was still passable but becoming increasingly challenging.
On August 30th, I guided and ascent of the West Ridge on Mount Tupper. The route was dry and in good conditions.
Enjoy the last bits of summer!
Cheers,
David Lussier
