Ski Conditions

Four groups on the ski guide certificate course skied around the Durand, Moloch and Empire Lake Chalets April 19-25. Travelling between 1800 and 2960m on all aspects in the alpine. We found a strong well settled spring snowpack with an average 320cm + on the glaciers.
The week started with convective spring weather daily, which deposited 20-30cm of new snow. Spring fully arrived by mid week with clear skies and freezing levels to 2800m. Cold snow was still found on steep true north. All other aspects held either crust or moist snow.
Spring diurnal rating with low avalanche hazard at all elevations in the morning, increasing in PM with strong solar radiation.
Concerns were mainly about overhead with cornices and loose wet cycles.

No slab avalanches were observed all week.
Several loose wet avalanches to size 2 daily with solar input south through west.
