Trail Conditions

Trails and approaches melting out quickly but wintry conditions remain above 2500m. Expect to meet snow just below treeline on shaded aspects, a bit higher on the sunny sides. While the travel on snow is relatively easy with very little post holing, the snow is firm enough to make sturdy footwear necessary. Take care on steep trails that have exposed sections; slips and falls are difficult to stop.
There has been an increase in bear activity around the Illecillewaet Campgound and trails in that area. No restrictions are in place at this point but warnings are in effect.

For folks looking to go higher up, the Hermit Campground is mostly under snow however several platforms are clear and the bear bins are usable. The Sir Donald Bivy Site will be under snow still. See photos for conditions on the NW Ridge of Sir Donald. The route will be wet and/or snowy until it's seen an extended period of warm dry weather and the South Face Bypass is very much out of condition with avalanches still coming off in the heat of the day. The approach to MacDonald is melting out quickly, snow patches are lingering on the upper pitches of both MacDonald and Tupper.

Things will change quickly with the sunny forecast.

Take care,
