up to Perley Rock today in the sunshine. Dug times for the Feb 10 Surface Hoar, and found it in the valley down 55-65cm under soft snow and up to 1700m, after which point I didn't see it in any of the quick holes that I dug. No whumpfing or cracking or windslab on the way up or down. We did see a crown over on the steep face to the climbers right of Lookout Col, looked like 10-20cm deep 20m wide and 80m long and limited to the very recent storm snow. There was also lots of pinwheeling and loose sluffing to size 1 out of steep solar facing terrain. -1.0 on the summit of Perley Rock at 1330 with no observed solar effect on the snow surface, +3.0 at 1650m in the sun at 1430 and the snow was getting warm on the surface. I expect that there will be a crust on lower solar aspects in the Vaux Moraines tomorrow. We ran into a party that went up and around to try and ascend the Terminal Col, but turned around due to solar effect. We also saw several parties on the Illecillewaet Glacier heading over towards Youngs Peak, doing a good job of dodging some pretty large crevasses. Excellent skiing the whole way down into the valley bottom.
