Rogers Pass Group of 4 Restrictions coming in the next week
Illecillewaet (Sir Donald, Uto, Eagle, Avalanche) and Asulkan (Youngs Pk, Asulkan Hut) drainages
This is a head's up to all folks that are contemplating mountaineering in Glacier National Park this summer. The Parks Canada Wildlife personnel have just informed me that they are putting a Bear Warning in place for the Illecillewaet and Asulkan Creek drainages starting today (July 7). This means signs will be posted that bears are frequenting the area and visitors should use safe bear-aware practices while travelling in the backcountry.
This will highly likely become a "Group of Four" Restriction next weekend (July 14th). All groups will be REQUIRED TO CARRY BEARSPRAY while hiking/climbing in the area once the restriction is in place.
There currently are several male grizzlies and a sow with 2 cubs in the area. This morning they wouldn't move off of the Sir Donald trail for several groups of climbers.
We will try to update the mountain conditions report as soon as new information becomes available, but be prepared to travel in a Group of Four if heading to Sir Donald/Uto/Eagle/Avalanche etc.
