Ski Conditions

Myself and fellow guide Barry Blanchard spent the last 6 days based out of the Bow Hut. Temps were between -7 and -16, and we received about 10 cm of low density new snow during that time. We saw a few thin windslab avalanches sliding on the Nov. 12 crust on both E and W aspects on large planar faces, one initiated by icefall. On the glacier we found the height of snow to be between 130-180cm, with very few crevasses evident to the eye.

Ski quality was very good above the hut (2400m), and very rugged below. We took the summer trail above the upper canyon out, as the creek is just starting to freeze. The normal winter route above the lower canyon is mostly in shape. The lake is still completely open water.

Happy Skiing,

Lisa Porter.
