Ski Conditions

Ski Conditions

We were on the Wapta traverse April 4-8, skiing from Peyto- Sherbrooke Lake.

Overall we had good travel conditions with about 20 cms recent storm snow since April 5. We saw a cooling trend with several convective storms over the last few days. Blustery SW winds formed a variable thickness wind slab at high elevations that was cracking but not propagating with skier traffic.

Despite poor visibility we managed to traverse over the Balfour high col. There was good coverage with snow depth over 300cms on the ice.The usual suspect crevasses were well in place but provided enough room to travel past. There was no recent ice fall activity off the E face of Balfour.

On the descent to Sherbrooke Lake we observed some small point releases in the HST.

Safe travels,
