Rockies - Icefields Parkway - Ice Conditions - Thursday Nov 24 2016
Icefields Parkway - Jasper National Park
Parks Canada assessed the condition of numerous Ice Climbs along the Icefields Parkway to determine the effects of the recent return to negative temperatures... the general overall theme is - THIN!
Be prepared for hard to find placements (bring stubbies and possibly a small rack), thin ice over rock, chandeliers, mushrooms, open water running and the inevitable 'arterial spray' of water.
Attached are photos of the popular quick hits from Weeping Wall to Shades of Beauty.
If you head out this weekend to ice climb (or ski), please review the Avalanche Terrain Exposure Scale for your area, as well as visit Avalanche Canada to check on avalanche conditions as most areas have recieved a healthy serving of storm snow (25cm at Parkers Ridge overnight) and more forecasted for Saturday.
