We used the Scheisser route to descend from the Neil Colgan hut two days ago. There was significant and consistent rockfall down the main gully to the skiers left of the upper part of the route.
A large chunk of the overhead cornice has recently fallen off with quite a bit left to go. All of this melting snow, cornice and rockfall has the potential to affect the first anchor encountered on the descent. We had basketball sized rocks flying by no more than 20m away from us.
The exposed section of the route is relatively short lived but I will be giving it a miss until the majority of the snow has melted from the upper fully.
All the best,
Marc Piché
