Avalanche Conditions

Avalanche Conditions

We went to Kokanee Bowl yesterday using the old Cat track to access the ridge. They were numerous large settlement (Whumpfing) on our way up.

We saw evidence of a size 2.5 in Kokanee Bowl, the entire bowl had released several days ago (difficult to say how old it was). The avalanche exposed lots of rock in the Bowl and combined with a highly variable HS, it is now very hazardous to ski this feature. I never seen this bowl that thin and I am a regular user of this area since the start of RMR.

The snowpack in Kokanee Bowl was very facetted (Foot Pen 60 cm), HS varied between 20 cm on the ridge in specific location to 100 cm in the Bowl. There were 85cm at 1700 meters.

The sun had some punch in the afternoon, affecting steep solar aspect.

Sincerely,

Fred
