Spent the last week traveling the glaciers around the Stanley Mitchell Hut.
It was a mixed weather week with temperatures ranging from 0 to-6. No significant winds and up to 40cm HST starting at 2500m from the Oct 1st storm. New snow has been added today with 3cm on the ground and S1 when we left the hut this morning.
At 2800m the average probe depth was 150cm of resistant settled snow. There is one stiff crust about 40cm off the ice with weak snow below. No slab properties or avalanches observed in areas traveled. We gave large lee slopes plenty of respect as there is much more snow at higher elevations.
There are plenty of open crevasses and weak bridges developing. Although the skiing would be good for a few turns the hazards greatly out way the benefit with sparsely covered rocks and big holes disturbing a clean line.
Fall hiking is in its prime.
Happy thanks giving weekend.
