Currie East (mirage drainage)

Avalanche Conditions

Today I took a few clients up to a new area for me on the Far East of Mount Currie (marriage drainage).
We skied 2200m-1650m elevation band on NW-N aspects. MFcr was weak to non-existent above 1800m. 40cm of un consolidated HST in the Alpine and Tree line, Only on immediate lee features was I able to find Wind Slab, but they were small in nature and ski cutting only produced very small size 1 Soft Slab propagating 5m at most. We did have one settlement (whomping) while climbing up a shallow rocky ridge line.

Over all we stuck to fairly supported Alpine features and payed respect to the new snow load and in the drainage we skied. I would rate the hazard 2/1/1.
If and when it warms up I feel we will see the HST consolidate and become reactive, which will increase the hazard.

As for the Nov PWL, we were not on Big consequence alpine slopes, however it doesn’t seem to be an issue at Treeline, mainly big Apline features as there was only an average of 160-170 HS at 2000m and similar at 1700m.
