New snow and wind

Vancouver Island Mt. Cain

Ski Conditions

Spend the past two days(Feb 28 and Mar 1)ski touring at Mt Cain ski area. Around 25cm new snow with mod to strong winds on the 28th from the SE. Windslabs in open areas only on the upper mountain and some big cornices and fat drifts on the sides of the ski area boundary/ridges. We avoided the steeper lines outside the area boundary as it was just too much load in a short period. These lines may be reasonable soon but it would be worth checking to see how the bond to the Valentines day crust is as that would be my main concern. The crust was exposed at ridgecrests so triggering a large slab from a shallow area on that crust is a possibility. Great ski conditions at that elevation but not much snow below the base elevation.
