Incident Reports

While climbing pitch 2 of Louise Falls, we had an icicle detach from the cave roof. Upon closer inspection, the lookers left icicles were dripping water and the temperature back at the car was -2 degrees.

A few good reminders:
- belayer positioning is key to avoid unnecessary exposure to overhead hazards
- caution icicle adhesion to rock with wet and warm conditions
- put in protection regularly to safeguard against larger leader falls

The descent trail had 15-20cm of low density snow over facets, which are on the ground. There is the potential for loose dry sluffs on the descent in the right terrain feature. We observed spindrifts and ridgetop snow transport on adjacent peaks.

Stay safe this winter,
