If approaching Mt Tupper for an early summer ascent, then you'd like to know that the Hermit trail is snow-free to 1800m, snow patches to 1850m, then snowbound above that. One could also pound up the Lone Pine slidepath, but be aware that there will be ~30min of bush-bashing before you hit the avalanche debris, if you hit the right line through the massive slide alder! The snow gullies are melting out fast and care is needed around pinch-points or anywhere you think you hear running water underneath the snow.

For those interested in Mt Macdonald, there is still good avalanche debris pretty much from the earthen mounds to the ridge-top. The creek crossing is its usual spicy self on the logs behind the old Tractor Sheds outhouse. There was some fresh snow on ledges above 2400m on the north-facing terrain, but that shouldn't last too long with the warm temp's and short nights.

Alpine climbing season is back.
