Mt. Columbia and Snow Dome

Columbia Icefield: 26-28 May 2017

Ski Conditions

Stellar high pressure created strong overnight freezes and warm days on the ice.
We climbed Mt. Columbia on the 27th, easily kicking steps up the 15-25 cm of new snow from last week's storm. But this is settling quickly.
On the 28th, we zipped up Snow Dome before skiing out. Still excellent coverage with few sags.
The crevasses had opened up substantially on the Athabasca glacier in the two days we were up high. Numerous sags, open slots, and weak bridges.
