Greetings,
I just got home from an ascent of Mt. Assiniboine's classic North Ridge route With Yamnuska Mountain Adventures. We approached from the Assiniboine Lodge via the Gmoser Highway and stayed at the Hind Hut to facilitate an early start for the route. The Gmoser highway was in good shape although there are still some lingering some snow patches which required the use of crampons to cross safely. The North ridge route was in excellent dry condition on July 20th and we were able to ascend the route without using our crampons. We were treated to clear air and a great view of the smoke and fires burning just to the North.
On the evening of July 20th the mountain was plastered with a fresh layer of snow from the passing storm as the freezing level overnight was just below the hut at about 2600m. Given a day of clear weather it should be back in dry condition once more.
Regards,
Mike Caswell
