Ski Conditions

Skied up Emerald Peak with Sachi by the scenic route via Hamilton Lake under clear skies, no wind and inverted temperatures.

Real mixed bag of snow conditions today from isolated moist snow on steep solar aspects to a 1cm breakable sun crust that didn’t loosen up much today, firm wind pressed snow at ridge top, 15cm of dry powder on sheltered polar aspects, 10mm SH (broad feathers) on shaded aspects in a band between about 1600-1800m, and moguls where the slide path begins to funnel tracks near the bottom.

Evidence of solar sloughing and pinwheeling from yesterday’s warm temps to isolated sz 1.5. Only one small slab avalanche observed in a steep ridge top feature. -16 deg at the car in the morning warming up fast to sun tanning weather in the alpine.

The slide path is getting pretty tracked out but there are still good turns to be found on sheltered, shady slopes.
