Rogers Pass, Glacier National Park

Climbing Conditions

The snowpack around Rogers Pass is rapidly shrinking, but this doesn't mean it is all gone. As of this morning, there was 85cm at 1900m (Fidelity Station). Meanwhile, the Hermit Campground (~2100m) is still completely snowbound but the trail leading to it is snowfree except for the final 50m to the plateau. Overall, expect minimal snow up to ~1800m in Glacier National Park, but then extensive snow coverage above, especially on northern aspects or in open basins/slopes.

The approach gullies to Macdonald are showing more snowfree patches. Watch out for moats near running water/creeks if you are booting up these gullies.

A report from a climber who did the Macdonald-Sir Donald traverse Saturday (June 26) said, "...the ridge was mainly dry, but there were definitely wet spots and snow on Sir Donald." This party descended the S Ridge on Sir Donald and finished up Terminal before heading down to the valley. The West-Face Bypass is still very snowy and not recommended.
