Lots of Wind but Skiing Still Decent

Surprise Pass - Lake Louise

Avalanche Conditions

The strong, gusty winds of the last 24 hours have managed to move a lot of snow around with widely variable distribution. Some areas were scoured to the crust and others were loaded with spotty pillows of wind slab. On south aspects, the slabs were cracking reluctantly on the sun crust while we were not able to get any of the pockets to crack or move on the north side.

The skiing was a bit rough at the top but quickly improved where the wind left a thin, smooth layer to soften things up a bit.

We saw no new avalanches today despite all of the recent transport and loading.
