Took a walk up to the Old Goat glacier above Spray Lakes today. Lots of recent fresh snow made for unstable avalanche conditions on the steep slopes off of Old Goat Mountain, with multiple point release avalanches out of steep terrain. Around 1510 a cornice failed at ridgetop on the ridge north of the summit, causing a size 2-2.5 slide entraining more loose snow all the way to the glacier below.
We saw ski tracks on the way up, but there didn't seem to be enough snow to ski safely (lots of rocks and sticks still poking up!) Still pretty early season, and with all the recent snow sitting around there's lots of potential for loose dry slides in steep terrain to really mess up your day if you're up high on a climb.
