Ski Conditions

Good skiing quality above 1500m with boot top storm snow ( Ski pen 15-30cm). Below 1500m warming created moist and sticky snow.

Mix of sun and clouds with scattered periods of snow. Light to calm winds on NE to NW aspects, but moderate SW ridge top winds.

We did a snow pit at 2000m, NW aspect in sheltered terrain. Snow height was 340cm. Easy shear results down 40cm on the Feb. 16th layer, but no propagation. We did another snow pit at 2100m above tree line on a NE aspect. Snow height was 340cm with same results then above. We did not observe any avalanche activity.

We avoided the alpine, wind loaded features and overhead hazards. Significant cornice on N ridge of Mount Field.
