February 17th,
Skied to Lookout notch via the Illecillewaet, descended the south aspect towards the Asulkan Valley and wrapped around to the Raven, skiing a south/southwest slope. Ascended to the Asulkan Hut and finished the day with a run from the hut on a north aspect
The snow was less wind effected than we expected based on weather station data. Sky in the morning was broken, and increasingly overcast in the afternoon.
We observed numerous loose-dry natural avalanches up to size 1 in steep terrain and several wind slab up to size 1, which appeared to have run during the storm.
We also observed a wind slab, size 2 at about 2300 meters, on the southwest aspect of Lookout Mountain.
15-20 cm HN overlying a breakable crust on steep south slopes, which was still skiable. No reaction to skier traffic on southern aspects. We ski cut a small wind slab at the ridge top on a steep (37 degrees) north aspect, entraining the new snow far down the run.
HS at 1975 meters on the northeast side of Lookout notch was 220cm.
Sincerely
