It feels like summer has arrived at Rogers Pass; warm temps and sunny skies have sparked people's interest in venturing into the alpine without skis on their feet. However, due to the cooler than average start to spring, the snowmelt is slightly behind schedule and many of the hiking/access trails are still snowbound in Rogers Pass. With little to no overnight freeze, the snow is not supportive and you are likely to wallow through knee to waist deep isothermal snow at lower elevations.
Attached are several photos showing the snow lines around Rogers Pass for popular alpine objectives (Mt. Tupper, The Swiss Peaks, Mt. MacDonald, Avalanche, Eagle, and Uto Peak).
There are also webcams pointed at the Connaught drainage, Illecillewaet Valley and down the Highway Corridor towards Avalanche Crest that updates hourly and gives a great view of current conditions. Follow the link below:
