Jordy Shepherd led a training day for ski guide candidates in the Emerald lake area on Feb 19th.
Ski conditions are still excellent aside from a few isolated pockets of wind slab found near the top hat col.
Snow was not reactive to skier traffic today but the group did observe a few recent natural windslab avalanches up to size 2 from steep north facing terrain between 1900 and 2300m. Avalanches may have been initiated by cornice failure but limited visibility today made it difficult to determine trigger.
Winds were light from the southwest and height of snow varied from 100-250cm at 2450m.
Thanks again to Jordy Shepherd and Backcountry Access for offering this training opportunity!
