Climbing Conditions

Got in a couple climbing days around Golden, BC before the rains came. Seems like generally light rains with reasonable freezing levels, over the last couple days, but all bets could be off...

Post-holed up to the base through punchy, isotherm-type snow. Didn't look like anyone had been up there in a while. The climb was fat but very sun-affected. Lots of mining for good screw placements.

Guinness Gully, Guinness Stout & High Test
We figured that with the recent avalanche that had covered the access road, the hazard would be pretty low. As it turned out, the gully was entirely scrubbed out thanks to some Parks Canada avalanche control. Spent the day without seeing anyone else on the route, while four vehicles parked for the Carlsberg/Pilsner area.

The bottom pitches of GG were very picked out, but the upper pitch was fat and enjoyable with many options to climb off of the heavily traveled stuff.

Easy travel on bed surface/avalanche debris up to GS. Both GS and HT were in phenomenal condition. Fat and plastic without any pick holes. Well worth the trip up to the head of the drainage.
