Great hiking conditions with a mix bag of weather

Sunshine Meadows, Banff National Park

Trail Conditions

We spent the last 3 days camping and exploring the Sunshine Meadows/Citadel Pass region. The weather was a mixed bag of fun, with plus 20 degrees one day and full on rain/graupel/snow and over night temps dipping below zero (as we all, know come prepared for it all). One important point to note, is that the SSV gondola is not running so it adds 10 km to the trip if hiking out and back. Snow is still lingering up in the higher regions, but travel was still fairly easy. Lots of wild flowers out in the meadows at this time of year, and very few people (other then the groups hiking into Assiniboine or back – some with very poor planning skills and chose to camp illegally within the National Park boundary.
