I guided a trip to West Niles today. Good supportive travel into the alpine (no going to ground ... yet). We left the common approach track when it went "as steep as you can skin". Ski crampons would be a good idea to follow that steep track.
Some wind affect in the alpine, but we found good ski quality in the troughs. Large old avalanche debris needed to be avoided. Good tree skiing at tree line.
