Climbing Conditions

We climbed the Huber Ledges route on Mt Huber this morning and found it to be in good condition overall. The lower quartzite ledges are mostly snow free although there was some fresh water ice in a few spots that was possible to cautiously climb around.

We didn't hit continuous snow until we reached the glacier at ~2900m. The cold temperatures over the last few days made for excellent neve and great supportive cramponing conditions, with the odd pocket of fresh drifted snow 10-15 cm deep. The glacier was well covered with no notable crevasses and the bergschrund was easily passed. Once on the glacier, the route to the top of Huber was all snow with no ice patches showing yet.

The access from the Huber glacier to Victoria looked to be in good shape with the schrund just becoming visible (see photo).

Overall, snow cover seemed to be pretty average for this time of year with many of the bigger peaks starting to come into early season shape. Some more photos of the area can be found here: https://goo.gl/dARaag
