We skied the Sunshine backcountry today, around Quartz Ridge.
It was a quiet day for avalanches in this zone, and it doesn’t seem to have been affected by the recent avalanche cycle like around the Wapta and Bow Summit. We saw only one recent large avalanche, a size 2 out of the north face of the north peak of Fatigue Mountain, which had been reported yesterday by Sunshine ski patrol.
Regardless, the recent avalanche events to the north combined with a couple whumpfs in flat terrain kept us to smaller slopes, mostly 30 degrees or less.
The skiing was quite good, a little bit of dense powder atop hard layers on polar slopes and styrofoam crusts on solar aspects.
