Avalanche Conditions

Avalanche Conditions

Spent the day in Tunnel Creek with a large group. Skiing was great with a minor rain crust under 20-25cm of new snow below 1650m. Skied in the trees but went to the ridge top to "summit" with a view onto Elko. The cornices were very large and it was a bit of a challenge to get to the top without exposing ourselves. There had been a few large cornice failures in the last 24hrs and we saw evidence of at least one size 2 storm snow avalanche near the ridge top. Not much wind affect until the last 100m of vertical below the ridge.
