Good skiing and then...adventures with alder!

Mt Field, Yoho National Park

Ski Conditions

Enjoyed some good skiing from the summit of Mt Field down to 1900 m today along with several other people who were in the area. There was about 5 cm of new snow overnight which improved the ski quality dramatically though some pockets of wind affected snow still exist.

There is between 130-150 cm of snow at treeline in this region. Unfortunately this is not enough to cover the alder at lower elevations. This makes it hard to recommend as a destination since the final 400 m to the road is remarkably challenging though several options exist. Careful navigation a good sense of adventure is required.

Still a fun outing with no significant avalanche concerns at this point. The surface hoar that formed during the past clear weather period is now buried and will be something to keep an eye on when we receive additional load.

Happy Holidays!
