Climbing Conditions

Good trip to Neil Colgan hut via Perren route. Climbed Mt Little yesterday afternoon and west ridge of Fay this morning. Still good snow conditions but the main North face routes on Fay are largely ice now.

As mentioned in another MCR rockfall is the current main concern. Still some snow melting and triggering rockfall and some glacial margins are also melting and exposing old perched blocks. Our timing and travel strategies were all primarily focused on minimizing exposure to rockfall, especially as the sun first hit the large partially snow covered faces and steep slopes. Thankfully there was only one other party in the area and we worked together to manage the rockfall hazard from each other and to move quickly on the descent of the snow gullies below the west ridge of Fay.

Glacier travel was excellent with relatively little loss of snow strength with daytime heating where we were.
