Facets on Haffner

Hyw 93 South, Mt Haffner

Ski Conditions

We skied up to the col between Vermillion Peak and Haffner Peak. Travel was quite fast on a dense base with 10-20cms ski pen in facets. The surface had a new skiff of snow on top of facets, surface hoar and sun crust. The sun crust was thick and catchy on steep southerly slopes. At 2200 midday, just below the col, it was -3, calm, and the HS was 160cms. Good skiing was found was found in shady areas and northerly aspects BTL. Caution for skiing up and down the old burn which is now being taken over by a jungle of juvenile lodgepole pine! There was no sign of recent avalanche activity in the area.
