Early season ski touring conditions. Rogers Pass

Illecillewaet Valley, Glacier National Park

Ski Conditions

We ran an ACMG and CAA Mentorship Day at Rogers Pass yesterday (November 24th) with ACMG and CAA members participating. We skied up the Illecillewaet Valley. There was 30+ cm of new snow in the morning, and it snowed about 1cm / hour all day. We didn't note any avalanche activity, but the danger rating was elevated due to the recent storm snow. We stayed away from steep slopes, and noted cracking in the new snow when we were travelling in the valley bottom.

It is still early season with lots of alder and terrain features visible, but the new snow is really helping cover that up. We approached the valley on the Sir Donald summer trail, which worked quite well.
