Skied Heartstrings in the Duffey lake area today. Much less snow in this area than in Whistler, about 10cm new snow overlying the melt-freeze crust from last weeks inversion. Ski quality was ok where the old surface was smooth and free from old avalanche debris and frozen snowballs.
Where wind effected this 10cm of new snow was very reactive and was easy to ski cut, however, only producing small size 1 avalanches. Still could be a problem if caught off guard in terrain traps.
Snow on the West side of Whistler was much deeper than in this area, 25 -30 in the Hanging lake area on January 8th...
