Had a wonderful day climbing the South Ridge Variant on Wenkchemna Peak with one guest on July 30th. I was surprised at how dry this area was compared to other regions along the divide. I took a chance leaving the crampons and axes behind and was glad i did. The few remaining snow patches along the ridge are easy to walk around.
There are a few snow patches remaining on the hike to Wenkchemna Pass that wont last too long in this heat.
We also found dry conditions on the East Ridge of Hilda Peak on July 29th. We changed our initial plans on the south face of Mt. Chephren due to too much snow on the approach slopes and in the cliff bands up high.
