Hiked the Joffre Lakes Trail today. We made it all the way to third lake in boots. I think some Yak Tracks might have been the best tool to deal with the icy sections. There was no over night refreeze. Put snow shoes on at third lake and attempted to head towards Tiszl. Third lake is no longer frozen enough for safe travel. Travel was difficult all Ng the shore, with isothermal snow (the snow shoes were wallowing) and rocky patches. There is still a lot of snow in alpine but wouldn't recommend accessing Matier Glacier from Joffre side.
