Trail Conditions

We just finished an ACMG Hiking Guide Exam in the Adirondacks. We hiked a variety of terrain, on- and off-trail, below and above tree line. The main peaks hiked were Spotted, Buck, Noonmark and South Dix Mountains, covering terrain ranging from 300m to 1300m elevation. We encountered dense forest particularly on the E side of Macomb Mountain with an area of extensive blowdown between 850m and 1000m. We had high temperatures and high humidity, but very little rain and the river levels were low. We saw only few signs of bear activity but the bugs were quite bad at times. The herd path along the Boquet River to the Grace/South Dix Col takes care to follow and has some eroded sections. We found several nice campsites along the Boquet River.
